Sylvia Mendez’s family took a segregated school district to court in 1947 and won, ending school segregation across California years before Brown v. Board. 

Ellen Ochoa became the first Hispanic woman in space in 1993.

 Vilma Martinez took over MALDEF at just 29 years old. 

Henry Cisneros became the first Hispanic mayor of a major U.S. city in the 20th century. 

Cruz Reynoso became the first Latino justice on the California Supreme Court. 

None of these firsts happened by accident — they happened because someone refused to accept “no” as a permanent answer.
